Tate Collective - IWD 2021
This particular illustration was influenced by Yayoi Kusama’s works, in particular ‘The Passing Winter’. I first saw this piece whilst visiting a friend in Liverpool and it was such an engaging piece of artwork, I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. I was super fascinated by her use of colour, shapes and materials. It made you want to get up-close to see what was going on inside, the mirrors reflecting different images back into one other. It was inspiring to learn that many of Kusama’s pieces are based on challenging experiences from her upbringing and with her mental health and it only made me more intrigued by her and her work. Kusamas work continues to resonate with me deeply and I think it is a fitting selection in celebration of Womens History Month.
